I picked this title from the title of a song by Elton John that he sang back in the seventies. I have to admit that I always liked it. Still in many ways what it reflects is a view of when one reaches those older years. And in my case I definitely qualify. If any of you out there haven’t heard the song here’s the link to one of the versions from YouTube:

In a sense what one takes away from this song will be as a result of who and where you are personally. For me it has to do with the title referring to sixty years plus, which is where I am, since I’ll turn sixty eight this year. Others may think about the fact that it seems that every generation have their wars to fight, others who want to see guns disappear will see a possible future where they don’t exist. And still others might focus on the religious aspect, and because of this none of us would agree what this song is about – and that’s what keeps life interesting.

What I am writing here will be through my eyes as I’ve viewed events, and marked time. And if we truly think about it for all of us it is this way. What is being witnessed throughout our lives will always be colored by who we are, what our experiences have been, our heredity, the influences that are around us, and where we are in our own timeline. Nothing we see is what it truly is. It cannot be any other way since we view all things from our inner selves, and our personal senses.

For example, in my case I’m partially colorblind. That means that certain colors do not exist for me and when you remove those colors what I see instead is the color that would be created if that missing color didn’t exist. To explain what I mean, here is what would happen. If you remove red from purple the color you would end up with is blue. And we can say the same thing with brown. Since red is the most common colorblind color then if we remove red from brown we get green. So this would mean that to any of us with that particular color blindness trait those other colors wouldn’t exist, i.e. brown and purple.

By the way, back when you were a kid, and for me that’s a long time ago, did you ever try to mix all the colors with your crayons or colored pencils to get white? Logically you’d think it would work since sunlight is white and we were shown and told that it is created from all the colors.  And by using a prism they prove it. Yet when we mix those colors on a sheet of paper we end up with black – one of those mysteries of life I guess.

Memory or memories can be tricky things. It has been shown that what we remember isn’t necessarily what really happened. Time and distance has changed those memories into something different, yet we believe what we see in our minds is correct. There have been a number of experiments done over the years that prove that memories can be implanted and have no basis in reality. So when I look back on my memories I find that with some there are warm nostalgic feelings that can lead me to smile, while others I’d sooner forget. Are they accurate, I believe so, but there’s no way for me to prove them to be so. If we think about this too hard it can leave us on shaky ground with nothing firm to stand upon. It comes down to do we trust or not trust our personal memories. Personally I’d rather trust them until they are proven to be wrong.

So what’s your earliest memory? Mine, and I’d guess I had to be around three at the time, has to do with a family outing to an observatory, standing on the steps leading up to the entrance. That’s it, nothing about going inside, or about the trip to and from, or any other aspect. There must have been something about that one location that created this permanent memory.

Other memories? Well, there’s the one where we went out to look at property when I was six. We turned a corner and everything to the west fell away and suddenly it was like I could see forever. As a boy scout taking that ninety mile hike we did as a troop, graduating from high school, (fifty years ago) the night I left home on the way to a war zone as a soldier, wild fires, where eventually one did destroy our homes, marrying the woman I love, who brought two daughters into my life and our family, being there for the birth of our sons, and now after all these years going to their weddings. As you can see most of these memories are ordinary and as such could belong to anyone. Yet, each and every one makes me who I am, as the ones you have make you who you are.

Local and beyond memories? The Kennedy assassination when I was in high school, the space race and landing on the moon, an airliner crash that almost hit an elementary school, and further back and personal, a military fighter crashing on the property and almost hitting our home, 9-11-2001, and the resulting wars that we still face today, terrorism and the many tragic losses from these extremists, and I guess I can throw in the mine rescue. In this mix I can add the resignation of a president and vice-president, and the first time we had a president who came to office unelected. And all of these form the backdrop of my and our lives influencing how we see and view our world.

The common factor in all of this is time. And for all of us time is the limiting factor. We are only given so much of it before we die. And it’s surprising how fast that time approaches. It seems like yesterday when I graduated from school and while I was in school it seemed like it was forever. Now fifty years later I’m returning from that reunion celebrating a half century since graduating. Yeah this means I’ve been out of school much longer than I was in, and that time between has more than flown – leaving me to wonder what happened

It is here at this time in one’s life that they realize that much of their lives are over, and whatever dreams and goals one had are no longer obtainable. It is sobering when one realizes that all the chances are pretty much used up, and are part of your past. Still I can say that once I retired that it allowed me one more chance at one of those life goals, and here it is right before you. I always had a desire to write, and in truth I never knew if I could be successful or not. I guess, in the end, I can say yes. When I seriously began to write, (after retiring) I set goals, whether I’d ever reach them I didn’t know. I honestly didn’t know if I could write a book or novel and finish it. Yet, in the end, I did reach those goals, surpassed them, reset those goals and will reach and possibly surpass those new ones.

Still, time is piling up, burying me under that weight, telling me that soon those creative juices will probably dry up. So next year as I work on two new novels,  they may be my last. Still I’m happy with the results of my writing. In the end I’ll have written twelve novels, plus one of short stories that I’ve presented over the years on this blog. And when I do look back on my life I see many twists and turns, dead ends, failures, and a few successes now and then. Still overall I have my health – more or less – and a loving family. I believe in God and would love to see a peaceful world. Still, I’m realistic enough to know that this will probably never happen. It still doesn’t mean that I hope to be wrong. We are still a world of tribes and have that tribe mentality. And until that changes nothing ever will.

In conclusion, all I can say is to keep reaching. Keep yourself active mentally and physically. Set those goals, and reach for them. If you don’t make them, at least you tried, and in a sense that’s the bottom line isn’t it. It has been said many many times, it’s the journey, the road you travel. Even though that road will have many unexpected turns, dead ends, and branches that will completely change your life and direction, you only fail when you give up. And unlike the games we play we cannot go back and start a level again. In life we get one chance, and it matters not whether you have the experience to make an educated decision, we must decide and then live by where that decision sends us.Whether my novels become more than a hobby only time will tell. Still I’m happy to have traveled down those many roads, and I love following my fictitious characters through their lives, and must admit that I’ve enjoyed their life stories and journeys as they unfolded. And if I want to admit to it I think I would like to meet many of them personally. Of course this is impossible since they’ve never lived except in my mind and on the pages of those books – still, they are real to me. Remember –

Don’t be afraid to reach high and to seek the impossible. Who knows, you may be the one who makes the impossible possible. God Bless! Have a great week, and learn from all the mistakes we all have a tendency to make. It is only then that we grow. (

Before getting to this week’s post I’d like to mention that here in the USA we will be celebrating Memorial Day this Monday after my Saturday post. A time of remembrance for all those who have sacrificed all to protect their family, strangers they’ve never met, and the nation where they were citizens. Being a veteran myself I understand why. Still any of us who have served in the foreign fields and wars always hope to come home to the ones we love and respect, but it isn’t something that is guaranteed. And many who expected to come home to those happy reunions, come home to be laid to rest never seeing their children, or family again – leaving an emptiness, and a sadness that will never go away.  Within this national celebration are the many personal stories, and tragedies that we never hear or will feel. So let’s honor our war dead and thank God for what we have.

Last week we left the teams involved in doing a detailed search of the Alpha, and we specifically followed Stone and Sorrel as they worked their way through the gloom that is the cave where they first entered into the facility in the past. From what Stone can determine the vast cavern has the appearance of being worked sometime in the deep past. This leads to the conclusion that there has to be lighting here, but as of yet they haven’t found any switches. Of course in the gloom visibility is minimal. Eventually they discover what he considers to be either a steam vent or a lava tube, and again it has the appearance of being worked. As they work their way down this feature Sorrel accidently brushes a light panel turning night into to day and temporarily blinding them. Ahead they spy a doorway which is closed. And as they prepare to enter we close out last week’s post.

And as we have been doing in the last couple of weeks, this week we follow another couple of teams while getting up, close and personal, as they work their assignments. As is usually the case when people work together small talk between the members keeps things as normal as it can be. All are trying to answer the many questions, and to really learn the whys and wherefores of this facility. And with this onto part 9:

“You know Seirra, I can’t get used to this feeling that I’m falling every time we adjust our views from wherever these things are located. It almost makes me ill with; I guess you could call it motion sickness. And I swear whatever this is, that it is falling out of the sky – yet . . . We’ve done this a lot and they’re still there. So logically I know that they remain wherever they are. And this still makes me wonder what happened in the cities so that they forgot about this. I mean we all have seen the records here and now know the truth. But it has been so skewed in the cities and the way it is taught in the learning centers, that none of the truth is known.” Saar complained.

Smiling at him for his minor complaints, she really couldn’t blame him for his thoughts. And she had to agree that when they used these small sticks to adjust their view, it really did feel like she was falling. But what a tool, what a view, and it really showed her the beauty that this world had, albeit somewhere above this world. She’d been dazzled by the shear variety that she’d been shown. And also the shear size of their world – well not their world even though they had lived here for a few generations – really was a surprise. It was not surprising then that they had yet to find out where the alliance was headquartered. She felt that they could probably be here for days upon days and do nothing but search and barely touch all that was being revealed to them. “Well Saar, I know what you mean. It does take some getting used to that’s for sure. Hey, it surely is a great view. This world is just gorgeous, I never realized that at all, and so large. I haven’t even begun to recognize everything we’ve spotted so far. There has to be a better way of doing this. Not that I’m complaining, but we cannot even be sure at this point where we are looking. And I am worried about our people who still are living in whatever cities that haven’t been located by the primitives, and of course for the ones who have been captured, and probably been made slaves or worse.”

“Yeah, I know, but there’s really little we can do. After all, considering what this alliance has accomplished so far, well whoever is in charge has successfully gathered many of the tribes and so far has been able to hold them together, has accomplished. We, who now know, what’s going on, well, you can count on the fingers of your two hands of those who know, and we are supposed to defeat that? I think the odds here are a little one sided, don’t you think?”

Looking down at the floor and then at him Seirra said. “Yeah, I know all of that. But what can we do? I mean, somewhere here we have to find an answer. We don’t know what happened to our own people. I am meaning the ones from our own home world, and it they were annihilated, wiped out, then, as far as we know, we are all that’s left. So somehow we’ve got to find a way to break this alliance, and finding it is the first step. So I guess instead of talking about it we should be a little more diligent and at least locate the area they are working from. Then we can decide what to do from there. I wonder if any of the other teams have found anything as of yet?” She glanced once again at the screen that was in front of her and noticed the small letters and numbers that were displayed at the bottom of the screen. “Saar?”

“Yes Seirra, what is it?” He asked quietly as he studied the images on his screen. He had to admit that she had been right. This world was much larger and varied than he ever imagined. When this search had started he thought it would be a simple thing. Since they could see from the sky it should be a snap to just see the gathered tribes. But he had been proven wrong. And all of them had been going over and over the images produced so far with no apparent success.

“Has anyone figured out what these letters and numbers mean yet?” She asked.

“Not that I have heard of. In fact someone guessed that it might just be a way to tell you, you were looking at a different image from wherever they are coming from – in space I guess. Why? Is there something about them that seems important? Or are they in your way, because if they are, I’ve been shown a way that you can remove them, or make them larger or smaller.”

Shaking her head she said. “No, no that’s not it. They are not causing me any issue at all. It’s just that there has to be a reason that our ancestors put them here, and I feel it’s not something to do with which view we are seeing. Look, if I shift the view to a different portion of this world from the area I am looking, then numbers change. So it has to be something more than just a way to identify the view we are seeing.”

“Ah, I see what you mean. But what it means I really have no idea. Maybe it’s something you can bring up tonight when we get together. It could be that one of the others has some idea, and right now I think I’m going to get us something to eat. Be right back, we can eat here while we continue our search.” He then pushed back his chair got up and headed out the door. On his way out he asked. “Is there anything special you would like me to bring back?”

Without turning around and continuing her search she said absently. “No, no not really . . . surprise me.”

* * *

Sabryn and Star, because of their children, worked the facility around the areas of family living and schooling, while Staven and Seve concentrated on the areas that dealt with maintenance, and operation. Not that there would be a true chance of finding the area where the pack animals were kept, but there could easily be a reference to, or an alternate way, that could be located somewhere within the facility. Part of the reason for the search in these areas was to be able to say that they would have searched everything and covered every corner once they finished. And if in the end they came up empty, then there was a good chance that this idea of an alternate entrance was incorrect. “Whew! I think you just loaded your pants little one.” Star stated. “I guess we need to take a break here and change your pants.” Fortunately at the time they were close to what they had determined was the daycare area, and immediately headed that way. While there, Sabryn decided she would check her daughter’s diaper also. It probably would be a good time to feed them and put both down for a nap anyway. One of them would remain with the children and the other would move over to the terminals in the schoolroom and at least continue to search the files. “So Star, is everything going okay with you and Staven?”

“Yeah, no complaints. He helps where he can, but is a bit clumsy around the baby. But he’ll get better. Like all things it just takes practice – After all these things do not come with instructions. So it’s an on-the-job training type of thing. And as you know if you get it wrong, the boss here will let you know in no uncertain terms.”

Laughing she had to agree. If her child did not like what was going on she would let them know her displeasure immediately. “It’s funny how that works. You would think that because we are the parents that we would be the ones in charge. And that’s so far from the truth. Okay that’s done. I guess I’ll feed her now and then put her down, stay long enough to see her asleep, and then go do the searching – actually if both of them go to sleep, then we could prop this door open and both of us could work. How does that sound?”

“Like a good idea to me. But we’ll see if he will go down. At times it just seems like all he wants to do is go.” Starr responded, “But it doesn’t allow me to do much when he’s like that.”

* * *

It appears that Saar and Seirra have the security duty, and while there are searching the images created by the cameras that seem to be above this world, Seirra notices that there appears to be a series of numbers and letters associated with the images and asks if Saar knows what they are and what they mean. He doesn’t, and states he can remove them from the screen if they are distracting. Meanwhile Starr and Sabryn are looking into the archives specifically the ones for the educational section. It makes it easier to take care of their children. And as is usually the case when women get together their children and mates do come up in the conversation. Have a great week and God Bless! (

Big Brother is Alive and Well

The Harsh Lands is available as a paperback (ISBN: 978-1-946179-00-5), for Kindle (ASIN: B01N69YCCW), or in the EPub format (ISBN: 978-1-946179-02-9). This novel is the complete Survival trilogy in a single book with a length of over 1150 pages.

Personal thoughts and opinions:

First, let me state that this is my “between chapters” post before moving on to chapter ten from the novel Time of Isolation. This term “Big Brother”, became known and popular from the novel “1984” by George Orwell. It projected a future where the government controlled all including everything in one’s personal life. And any of the news organizations, and such were also controlled by the same – sounds kind of familiar doesn’t it. In a sense this Orwellian society exists today in many of the communist nations. It began to rear its ugly head here in the  USA as the government placed the Constitution in the “unimportant and useless” category and decided that they knew better. Thusly burying their citizens in an unimaginable quagmire of new laws and regulations, to include the monitoring of the internet, phones, and any other electronic device to further control and restrict what the average citizen could do.

Now this sounds like I’m heading into this direction and will continue to talk about the government, but this isn’t true. This is about what Big Brother is and how it applies to today. And in reality to make such work it must be sold to the citizens as something positive – something they can’t live without. And here I saw this very thing happening as corporations pushed a product in such a way that I’m sure they sold millions of them. To the ones who purchased these coveted products I’m sure they never realized the can of worms or Pandora’s box, that they just opened.

Okay, what does Big Brother do? In the book he exists in every home, in every apartment, in other words everywhere,  and can never be shut down, or can one ever escape his watchful eye, making the secret police, the KGB, or any other state police system seem like a child’s game. In the book it meant there was no way to escape his watchful eyes or ears. And one never knew if they were under some investigation, or being watched. In many ways the movie Minority Report, shows the same dystopian society where every part of your life is tracked and recorded. And with the technology of today this is something that is easy to do. So this leads to the question: Have you helped make it easier to keep track of you and your family? If you have a smart phone, and most do now days, then the answer is yes. All smart phones have GPS which means the phone must know where it is otherwise it is useless – other than as a phone. And if this is the case, your location is known at any time.

Then this holiday season I began to see items advertised that moved all of this one step closer to “Big Brother”. So how many of you purchased these devices? You know, the ones that sit unobtrusively on a table and simply listens, then answers your questions?  Just an idle question you ask? Think about it. You’ve just let large corporations into your private home. And as the little device sits there innocently taking up space, it listens to everything that is said in your household. And for most of us it’s something we wouldn’t even consider. So in a positive light and with your eyes wide open you purchased “Big Brother”, and enthusiastically brought him into your home.

It is already known that without our knowledge that webcams can be remotely operated giving no sign that they are even on or being used. And because so much now goes through the internet, our computers, phones, and devices are always connected. Meaning that at any time any of these large corporations, and the government to be truthful, want to spy on you and what you are doing, our modern world makes it easy.

While much of what is available helps us in our daily busy lives, it’s the unintended consequences of all of this “help” or assistance that we need to be aware of. Like those viruses, and spyware that we have software to protect us from, we need to be more aware of the consequences of all of these convenient devices and the negative effects they can produce. Think, Enemy of the State, where technology is used against a citizen, (Yes it’s a little over the top).

Remember that we don’t lose our freedoms or privacy in large chunks. It’s always small bits and pieces until we look back and realize that it’s all gone, and there’s no way of going back. Because, in this world, what we lose is never returned. While this is just one person’s opinion, I hope that if nothing else, it makes you think. God Bless, and have a great week! (

Coming Down the Pipeline – Plus a Little History

Before I begin this week’s post I’d like to present this statement made a long time in the past. Since this is a year where we are facing major issues, and election campaigns are in full swing, maybe we should read and understand what is stated here. If we take what is stated to heart then maybe we will be much more careful as to whom we put into office:

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Marcus Tullius Cicero

And now onto this week’s post:

You know it’s been said that anybody can write but only writers can edit and revise. Whether this is true or not I can say, from personal experience, that there is probably more time spent in this part of the process than there is in the writing of the story. In fact, by the time I’ve gone through each and every one of these things, a minimum of three times, and it has been as high as twelve or possibly more, (and this is cover to cover), I really am sick of the tale and probably have it mostly memorized. Of course, there is a problem with this; it means I’ve seen the manuscript too many times and this makes it easy to miss things that probably should be addressed.

I suspect this is why the importance of editors – ones who have never read your adventure, and can put fresh eyes on the subject and catch-all the strengths, weaknesses, errors, and such that lies within. We, as writers, being too close to the story, can see where it goes, but in truth, the written word sitting there before us may not reflect that very thing. Unfortunately with the price of editors I cannot afford them. So until one of my works sells well enough to bring in enough income to cover this cost I must do without. (No excuses, just fact.)

Writing is always something I wanted to try my hand at, but being a responsible individual, and during my working years, there was never the time, (or energy if I want to be honest). Add to this raising a family and the inherent costs meant I couldn’t take a chance, quit my job, and pursue a career in writing. So when I finally retired I set a goal of writing eight books. It had been years since I had even touched or dealt with the publishing industry and as a result it appeared that the whole thing had changed to the point where it was unrecognizable. So I had to relearn much, well, to be honest, it was like seeing the process for the first time. As far as that original goal I wondered, “Is it realistic?” After all, up to this time I had only tried writing articles or short stories for publication for which I was unsuccessful.

If any of you, who may be reading this, follow this blog you know the answer to that above stated question is yes. And because of my success in reaching that goal and actually surpassing it, I’ve reset the goal to ten, and maybe I’ll push it to twelve. The one thing I’ve learned in life is nothing, absolutely nothing is guaranteed, including reaching the next day. So far I’ve self-published four of my stories, and what this post is about is looking ahead to the other five coming out in the near future. (I also have to mention that these four published works have recently been edited and revised. I have plans on re-releasing all of them.) So for these posts “between chapters” I plan on looking at those five, with this week covering an unpublished trilogy titled Discovery.

One of my favorite authors from the past is Louis L’Amour who is no longer with us. One of the things that always impressed me about his writing lay in the fact that the lands he describes in his stories exist. So I thought that when I wrote my first book that I’d try to emulate this and that’s exactly what I did. The lands described in this trilogy are there and with care and the descriptions one could retrace the paths these fictional characters traveled. Of course, since the trilogy takes place a few thousand years after an apocalyptic event, what exists, as far as structures, and civilization has changed, as well as some of the lands, (Nothing remains the same.).

Also I consciously decided, since we face conflict on a daily basis, that this story would have as little as possible. In truth it was only later that I learned that it is conflict that drives any story, (and yes it is in this trilogy). Yet, what is this conflict I’m talking about here? This really is a great question to ask since we face it everyday of our lives. From a general perspective I would have thought, (back before I really understood) it applied to those situations that can make us nervous, scare us, or make us uncomfortable. It could be something major like wars, severe weather, or a TC (Traffic Collision). It can be those awful confrontations our bosses throw our way now and then when we’ve drawn their wrath. And any and all of these are the way, when I began writing this trilogy, of how I viewed conflict. Yet, as I learned, it is so much more subtle than that. It’s those mental arguments we have with ourselves, or those decisions that must be made, or a simple difference of opinion. In other words almost everything we do in life, from the simple to the complicated and unexpected, is full of conflict. And when you realize this you can see it everywhere, and in anything and everything we do.

When I began this first manuscript to say I was out of practice and quite rusty would be an understatement. In truth it took writing a number of novels to settle into a method or style that works for me, as far as chapter breaks, story  flow, and what appears to be a normal word count length, (which happens to be around 115,000 words). Again, at the beginning, I didn’t know what was considered a proper word count, (or why word count truthfully) for the genre I generally  write. So these first two in this trilogy run long – 140,000 and 165,000 words. Whereas the counts generally desired by publishers is somewhere in the range of 100,000 to 120,000 words, (And if this is your first or debut novel then the word count must be less, being no more than 100,000, and no less than 80,000 words for the genre I generally write.). Now for those who would like to know how this translates, it kind of goes this way: According to the book page the word count per page will run somewhere between 300 to 350 words. From here it is easy  to determine the number of pages a book or novel will run.

In fact when I began the first book, I decided to write it in first person. It didn’t work, and as a result I had to go back and rewrite it in third person, for which all my novels are written. (In the short stories I write, I find that most are first person, making them more intimate.) Still it wasn’t an easy thing to change from one POV (Point of View) to another. And that consumed a lot of time. Plus I just wrote, not placing chapters or breaks into the storyline, which again required going back and figuring out where they belonged. I also thought that once it was written nothing else had to be done – naïve, yes quite. In this first novel I figured that I’d be able to tell the whole story, but found that I still had a lot of story to tell when I reached the end, (at those 140,000 words). This led to book two, which caused its own problems for the first book. So after changing the POV, locating those natural breaks between chapters, followed by writing novel number two, it forced me to go back to the first novel, flip chapters one and two and then rewrite the timeline as the two clashed, and, “my, we couldn’t have that could we?”

The images in my mind that led to the story are eventually realized and finished in book two. And in this story I deal with six protagonists, each playing their part in tying together the overall story. (I consider my writing style to be, “Meanwhile back at the ranch”.) While the antagonists of the story are more the conditions, nature, and the distances covered. This is because the story is really more about discovery, (And thusly why this title for the trilogy.) of what their true past is. The books are titled: The Ones Before, Discovery, and An Ancient Fire. And while I’ve been discussing the first two and the obvious conclusion of the main storyline by the end of book two it leads to the natural question of what is book three about? To answer that one will have to continue reading, as I will now talk briefly about each book:

Book One, The Ones Before: A mystery that lays before the existing generation is a myth that has always existed, and refused to die. The story of an ancient people known as The Ones Before. Before what, you might ask. Before the known written history would be the answer. The frustrating thing for the Head Keeper of the Past is the fact that throughout written history, throughout the generations nothing has ever been found to show or prove that these ancient people exist or had existed. The lands where they live presently are sparsely populated and there is much that is unknown. Perhaps the answers lie in those unexplored lands. And with recent events maybe this present Head Keeper of the Past might have a chance to either prove, or disprove the existence of these ancient people and their culture once and for all.

Book Two, Discovery: Much has transpired, and with a dig in the desert on hold, the Head Keeper of the Past and his team plan to move towards the coast. It is here where rumors of artifacts that may have been discovered that might actually be from The Ones Before. Yet, before this can happen The Head Keeper of the Past must return to the township, and bring the council up to date. And while gone the nomads return, (You learn about the nomads in book one.) to their oasis, raising tensions between the team since they are working close to this protected site, (Some of that conflict I talked about.). With the return of the Head Keeper of the Past the team moves over the mountains and with the new knowledge provided by their scout have hopes for answers to questions long unanswered.

Book Three, An Ancient Fire: With the story told in the previous two books it is time to move deep into the past and follow a whole new group of people as they try to live and survive in a time of chaos where the world has come apart and a new day isn’t guaranteed to anyone. Much of what you learn of the society in the first two books get their beginnings or origins during this time period. And for me I realized before writing this third novel that there could be a whole number of novels written dealing with different time periods before returning to the “existing present”  that’s in the first two novels.

Now, I have to say, when I began this particular project, I thought I’d only end up with one book or novel instead of this trilogy. I can say the same for the novel I’m presenting presently. In this unpublished trilogy when certain characters were introduced they were originally there to move the plot along. Meaning I had no plans for them to become major players in the story. But they disagreed and demanded more time and a stronger role in the overall scheme of things. And they won in the end. I know what you’re thinking, “Wait a minute here. These characters are fictional they don’t exist. Never have, never will. So how can they have a say in what happens to them?” At a conference one writer, who was one of the speakers, stated it this way: “We are writers and as such we listen to those voices in our heads.” Another way to consider writers of fiction is the fact all of us are liars. What we write doesn’t exist and is all made up – no truth there at all. Still by bringing the four characters from a minor role to major players in the novel the overall story flows really well, and has more depth. And it gives you, the reader, different perspectives of this fictional world the charters live in, (Plus by seeing and experiencing the lives of these different individuals it allows you to see their world, their society, and where they are technology wise.). It feels more real, and more alive, and has a kind of depth that could have you looking for them, the characters in this story, in your own neighborhood, just so you can talk to them, and maybe ask them about their lives.

And presently I’m in the edit and revision stage once again for these three books. Last time through I thought I had it, but reread the beginning of book one and realized two of the characters were out of character. As I stated above I’ve worked the first two heavily a number of times but I’ve never been satisfied with the results. (And to be honest, these are the first I ever wrote and do require this level of dedication and work.) And again, as stated in an earlier blog, this is a year of editing and revision as I work all my novels including all that remain unpublished. In the next post, between the next chapters, I will cover the remaining two books which are stand alone. And maybe in a future post I will discuss the one I’m presently writing, and is on hold until this editing process is finished with the existing unpublished novels. God Bless! (

A Time of Change

Personal opinion:

At least that’s what is supposed to happen every four years in the USA. A time when a new president is voted into office and one-third of the senate rolls over. It is also a time where many local issues find their way onto the ballots, including such things as tax increases that must be put before the people before such can be implemented. Unfortunately the political machine in this country has become so huge, and has been on “the take” for so long that what we see is cronyism in the Nth degree. So whoever ends up in the presidency or has ended their time there it is “no change and business as usual”. And with corruption running rampant in Washington D. C. it is of no surprise that the laws of the land are ignored – namely the U S Constitution.

I doubt that one could find too many politicians anywhere, (here and in the world) who could be considered honest, and aren’t “on the take”, lining their own pockets at the cost of their citizens. We see nonexistent borders, (here in the USA) that are more porous than a sieve. And a government that makes sure these illegal immigrants have all the rights of citizens including the right to vote. They support them with welfare, SSI, Social Security, and cater to their wants and needs over the rights of their citizens. In fact it has been shown that if you add up all the freebies these illegals receive they’d have a salary of over $30 an hour, while most Americans struggle to pay their monthly bills.

We see laws passed that are completely against the Constitution. Such things as Obama Care – A Ponzi scheme so huge that it is killing this country. A President, who is more of a dictator, who has far exceeded the limitations of his office, changing laws and bills when they come to his desk, because they weren’t the way he wanted them to be. Where, and by the Constitution, he must either sign the bill into law or reject and send it back. We have seen the office of the presidency used to illegally sell weapons to the Mexican cartels, with this attempt to undermine the second amendment, and so many other illegal activities and dealings that are far too numerous to list here. Enough that if the congress did what they were supposed to do, in other words their job, then he would be impeached and in jail for his crimes. This president’s actions make Watergate look like a walk in the park on a quiet Sunday afternoon in comparison. And with the Watergate scandal the president resigned! If we were to compare what we are seeing to any of the communist countries existing now or in the past we would truly see very little difference, as regulations and restrictions continue to rise.

Of course I cannot leave the media out of this since they have more power to influence the outcome of any of these elections, and they take special care to ensure their chosen candidate is the one who is elected. Since most major news services are owned by large corporations or international conglomerates, they have a desire to have candidates and elected officials who are favorable to their way of thinking in office. It only makes sense, to them, to be sure that what is presented to the public favors their choice, and defames the challenger, so they can keep the status quo. What ever happened to reporting the news and facts honestly? Whatever happened to answering the basic questions to get to those facts? You know “who, what, where, when, why”, things like that. Now it’s, “Let’s see how we can spin this so that we can get the maximum benefit out of this and to hell with the truth.” Pravda is probably more honest.

You know, I wonder what the different governments, (city, county, state, and federal) do with those taxes they ask for every time there’s an election? There’s always a demand for the educational system, for some special project, or because they need to cover this or that special program or debt. All of us must live within our means, within the monies we have available, or face bankruptcy. Yet our government, whether it is local, county, state or federal, cannot seem to do this. It is time we, as citizens, reject any and all tax increases. I truthfully haven’t seen a raise in my personal income, and must live on what I bring home even though prices continue to rise, causing the “belt” to be tightened. Our numerous governments must do the same and quit asking or demanding more. Soon it will simply be this: “How much do you earn? Send it!”

The two candidates, this time around, have widened the gulf and division among the citizens, (Not that the existing president hasn’t done the same, because he has) as we look at a non-politician on one side, and a die-hard politician on the other. And while I could give my opinion and the reasons why, I’m not here to start a wildfire, which would be the result. I can only  say this: If the election goes one way we, as a people, as a nation, will have lost, and this nation will be on its way to obscurity, suppression, and the unavailability of goods and services. Our individual freedoms will become no more than tendrils of smoke vanishing into thin air of a cold December morning. Suppression will be on the rise, and that Constitution will be no more than pieces of paper with some words on them with no meaning.   We will lose everything our forefathers fought and died for. I believe that we are down to our final opportunity or chance of saving this republic and the U S Constitution. If it goes one way all our chances will have been used up and the existing corruption will rise to unprecedented levels and what this country was will be a distant and past memory where the ones living in this country will be saying, “Oh yeah, I remember when . . . when we had a chance, but we ignored it, and now there’s never going be a way of going back – ever.”

The sad thing is that this country, this nation, is the last one to embrace the principles of citizen rights, and at this time we are on a slippery slope that has predators at the bottom just waiting for the moment to take us down. I’ve heard, in the past, a statement that said that one can equate or compare life, and the world, to the game of football. In the game the object simply is to get the ball across the goal line, and because of this whoever has the ball becomes the target. And so it is in life. If you have that ball, everyone is after you. And this applies to nations also. And when you look at recent history it has been this country carrying the ball, and the way things have gone is the result of the rest wanting to bring us down, and become the ball carriers. And there are many within this nation whose only interest is to destroy what we have, and many of them are our elected officials. And while history may show that nations have been destroyed by forces outside, many times, before this happened, it was what preceded this destruction, a weakening within that led to the nation becoming vulnerable, and as a result became an easy target for invasion and being conquered. We are so very close to this time here.

So all of us in this country – this nation be careful. Be so very careful. Because it will be this time when future generations will look back and either say, “What were they thinking? They had a chance to save and keep their country, keep their nation great, but gave it away.” Or will they say. “Look it really was a close thing. It could have gone either way, but they stepped up to the challenge and saved their nation.” So which will it be? Will we lose it all, or will we wake up in time to save our nation from the fall that is closer than you think. And hold the vote counters accountable for it has been shown that corruption is high here. Let alone software that has been available for a long time that can go in and change the votes that have been cast to whatever the politicians want. (And if you think this last point is fictitious I can provide a link of  testimony before congress giving these facts before a congressional committee.) All of this is in yours and my hands. Do we go status quo and lose this nation, or do we find the courage to bring this nation back to its roots? God Bless! (

Blog Extra – July 4th, Looking Back

Personal Opinion and Thoughts:

It is July 4th, or what is known as the Fourth of July in the USA. The official date where the colonies declared independence from England 240 years in the past. First off I’m providing a link back to last year’s post, and stating that if anything it has gotten worse and not better. This is also an election year on a national level, and in many ways a critical one. In my  opinion we as a nation are fighting to remain a free country, and one who is governed by the laws of the land or what is called the Constitution of the United States of America. At this very moment it appears that the biggest law-breaker to these basic rights and laws is the government itself. Still let’s look back through the link to my thoughts last year:

If you are one who followed the link back, there really is little that I can add. It is the fervent hope from the common citizen that what we had can be found once again. And while the celebration of our independence is important, as we continue down the road we’re presently traveling it is a hollow celebration as the government continues to break the very laws of the land, and push us so ever closer to becoming the new USSR.

May America return to her roots and become what she once was. God Bless! (

Fiction Verses Reality

As I was editing one of my future posts, which deals with part of a fictional story, I realized that for a story to work that it must mirror reality. And what I’m referring to here is what our experience tells us about how it all works – cause and effect, if – then, and the such. We’ve all heard the phrase, “Stranger than fiction”; meaning that something in real life was beyond the imagination of the many writers out there and whatever the incident one would never have expected it to happen in real life, in the real world.

As I thought about this I realized, (not that I haven’t talked about this before in past posts) that whatever the fictional world the writer creates, it is the actors or characters who must be consistent in what and who they are. The worlds may be of fantasy, of a future utopia, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic, dystopian, or so many other fictional creations that don’t include the physical or real world as we know it. Again these worlds are simply the places in time and have a physical reality that the fictional people live out their fictional lives. And while it may be fantastical to us, for the ones living in these worlds it is the normal day-to-day stuff. And if we strip away the fancy dressing, the fictional worlds and societies, what do we find but ordinary people living their lives and trying to survive. Of course most of the boring stuff has been stripped away with only the situation that has been brought forth presenting us with the conflict that drives the story.

The people – especially the protagonists and antagonists must mirror reality. And here I mean they must mirror us, the ones who live in this physical realm. They must reflect, act, and react like living breathing human beings whether their form is like us or completely strange. I think one of the most difficult parts of being a writer of fiction is when one creates creatures that have never existed, be it in horror, science fiction, fantasy, or any of the many other genres where we have this freedom, is to make them appear real thinking beings, reacting as they should within the limits of their form. From our imaginations we must create a history, the conditions that drive these fictional cultures to become advanced enough to rise above the animals, build societies, and then act and interact with us, as readers, on a level where we can empathize with them and what we are reading. And all of it must be seamless and natural revealing this history and culture through the actions and reactions of these fictional creatures, worlds, and environments.

Yet, even here when this is done, deep down, and while the writer keeps it consistent within this world of aliens, we can still see us. All of us are prisoners of our culture. Unless you have spent time in another, then it is easy to overlook the fact that others, because of their culture, look at a situation or the world differently. In fact the language you speak has determined the way you even think. When one learns a foreign language it forces one to begin to think in that language. And I’ve been told that once you no longer have to translate that foreign language into your own, at that moment, you have made it your own. And it has been said the more languages you can speak the smarter you become. And it seems to be so. Still it could be because the ones who have done this have a higher intelligence and it becomes obvious when they speak, or maybe it really does. So by learning that language you really are expanding yourself beyond your culture, and the way you have always viewed the world.

So when these strange creatures are created, in a sense, it is like moving to a new country where one must learn to think, act, and interact like the locals. Still, and overall, while we are not logical creatures, since we deal with emotion, inexact thought, and biology, and because of this it is a wonder that we have any consistency at all. We all face fear, hate, jealousy, love, dislike, pain, heat and cold, and so many other things. All of this leads to a complicated creature. And if we really think about it we see much of the same reactions from our animals. So for us on this planet it appears to be something that is consistent among all of us.

When considering this, how, with so many complicated parts being involved, can we be consistent? It has been stated that it’s because of the combination of heredity and environment. Heredity determines the tendencies we are born with, and environment, or the way we are raised, will be the way we will act and react to those tendencies. With this understanding we now can begin to create our fictional characters, and why they, in the end, will be no more than mirror images or reflections of us.

In the beginning when a character is created, (at least in my case) much of what he or she is, is an unknown. For example in my novel, A Taste of History Past, book 3 in the Survival Series, I saw Kal standing in the afternoon in the middle of either fields or meadows trying to come to some decision about what was bothering him. Now if we think about it, this is consistent with any of us. Not necessarily the location, but going somewhere quiet and trying to solve some important issue that requires a quiet place so we can concentrate fully on the problem or issue. So this character shows a trait we are quite familiar with. Obviously, in this case since it is the 3rd book in the series the world he lives has existed and did not need to be created. Yet, this isn’t entirely true this time. Only the world is the same.

He exists a long time in the future from where book 2, Desperate to Survive ends. So in truth this required bringing the people of this world forward in time, including any advances, changes in culture, and their history through their myths and legends. Still when one looks at the story overall, and the players within this story, we can find parallels to our world, our time, and if we want to, look back to any time of our own world history. These fictional stories and the players within them are no different from any at any moment in time, in any culture that exists, have existed, or will exist on this world. No, the story or this novel I’ve used for an example, may not reflect any real event, but instead it reflects the tendencies that make us, us.

It is this consistency that draws us in, that allows us to anticipate what may be happening in the future of that fictional story, and to feel comfortable with the actors. We can see ourselves in them, and as a result feel empathy towards them. Making us want to cheer them on, to warn them when we, as the readers, can see things that are unknown to them. And maybe at times we can see some of our faults as we follow the antagonists, and hope that in the end they might be redeemed. Realizing that most of the time they don’t want to be redeemed and enjoy their power over others, (Does this sound familiar?) and their abilities to fool the regular folk. Psychopaths, and sociopaths immediately come to mind. For whatever the reason, their flaws are so severe that they enjoy being who they are, and what they can do against society and the individual.

And if one thing is consistent in any novel out there is this parallel world between reality and fiction. They go hand-in-hand to create these fictional worlds that we want to return to often. We want to see us in those stories. We want to watch the people in those stories grow, become more than they were at the beginning. We want to see them triumph in the end. And maybe this is the one true difference. In our own lives we have no guarantees that once our lives are over that we’ve accomplished our goals, or triumphed over our adversaries. Still in the end, and as it has been said too many times, it is the journey, what we learn and gain as time moves by us much too fast that will become our legacy. And it may be for some forgotten act that will mark who we were and how we will be remembered.

It is those failures that we learn from the most. But, a failure only remains a failure if we don’t continue to try. And every time we overcome those failures we gain. What we gain is up to us. And while those novels are static, meaning that every time you pick it up to read it again, the story remains the same with our hero or heroes winning in the end, our lives are not that way. So, in a sense, these protagonists can be someone we look up to. Someone who can give us the confidence that maybe in our own lives we can overcome those personal obstacles, learn from our mistakes, and reach our goals. Our lives only become static once we are no more. It is only then that there is no present, our past is written, and our futures are no more.

In conclusion, once again, as we read the words on the page, watching them disappear into the images within our minds, we can live, for a short time, the lives of these fictional people. People who only live within the pages of these novels. And have only become alive because of the imagination of a writer and you the reader. Yet, it is his or her observation of the real world that allows these fictional characters to live, and for us to love and hate them. And it is these fictional worlds where we see us thusly bridging the gap between the worlds of fiction and our world of reality. And many times when we have finished those novels we take a moment to reflect what was there, leaving us at times thinking about what was said, and other times leaving us with a sense of wonder. God Bless! The Dark Ages

Personal Opinion: I try to stay away from politics and what’s happening in this nation. It might seem like I’m ignoring the problems and conditions of this nation and the world, but I don’t see it that way. I’d rather sit back and look at the overall situation, avoiding the flash news that tries to influence the way I think, and the way I will decide some issue. Yet, when it becomes as it has, I finally must speak out, as I become more and more alarmed at the trends which I see are arising. I see this nation dying right out from under me and that scares me to death. If we go down where in this world can we go to find the freedoms that we had, (purposely past tense) here? I know of no other nation on this earth where I can go. After all, we are stuck here on this little planet with no escape at this time in our history. So as we begin the new year I present to you my personal thoughts, opinions, and views. And as the reader you have the right to agree, disagree, reject the writings as hogwash, or see what I see. For me, it is all I can do. Next week we will be back to the short story, The Hunt:

It appears that in this country we are entering the dark ages. In the recent past my wife pointed out to me that in the state of California they have recently passed a law stating that it is no longer required that anyone in high school pass an exit exam or anything similar. It basically stated, if you, as a student, show up, then you get a diploma. It doesn’t matter whether you sat on your behind and did nothing,  failed every class, and generally wasted everybody’s time, you were there so here’s your diploma.

What this stated to me was how much in control of this country the Socialists are. It has been stated that knowledge is power, so the axiom to this has to be, illiteracy allows one to be manipulated, and under control. This method was used throughout the dark ages of Europe where the supposed elite were educated while the common everyday citizen was illiterate. This allowed the Church, the aristocracies of the time, and the monarchies to dictate, and control all aspects of people’s lives. And when you look at the situation here in this country, at this time, it is easy to see similarities to those times.

Socialism and Communism is all about control, and we can see that plainly when we look at this present government. We have a president who has been more of a dictator, or king. If he doesn’t like the way a law is written that came to his desk, even though he had no power under the Constitution to change it, other than vetoing it, he will rewrite it and sign it into law. If laws have certain dates they are to go into effect, he changes it. Then he’s written laws and pushed them on the unsuspecting public, all well beyond the power of his office. And Congress does nothing.

And while I’m on the subject of Congress, did you know that they recently voted on a law that would allow a foreign power to come into this country, occupy it, and take all the weapons that the Second Amendment protects? It seems to me when we look at history that a nation was normally occupied by a foreign power when they lost a war. Yet, we have seen Congressmen willing to do just that, to turn over our sovereignty and freedoms, to circumvent our very laws so they can get their way. And what truly sucks was how close the vote really was. In the past such acts would be considered treason. But it seems, for now, that it’s business as usual. (U.N. resolution #2117) 46 of our senators voted to pass it.

Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there. Both major political parties have been infiltrated heavily with the Socialist Doctrine, and like two sides of the same coin it doesn’t matter which side you see, it still is the same coin. So whether you elect a Democrat, or elect a Republican, you get the same. What they say during their campaigns to get elected means nothing, and when they are elected into office, nothing changes except a furthering of distance from the laws of this land leaving them behind to do as they please – in other words, the Constitution of this United States of America.

We’ve seen unbelievable budgets being passed that puts this country further behind in its debt obligations, and no desire from any to stop this insanity. We see the government support illegal immigration into this country by giving them everything they need to live here. It’s no wonder Social Security is broke when the government gives freely, to these illegals, our hard-earned money. If you add the benefits together that they receive and translate it to an hourly wage it would equal to a wage of over $30 an hour. Free schooling, free medical, free meals at the schools for their children, welfare and housing, SSI,  and yes your social security benefits – none of which they deserve. By our very laws, which our government are required to enforce yet ignore, these illegals are to be deported and returned to their countries of origin. Instead they are given all these freebies including such things as driver licenses, voting rights, (really?), WIC, food stamps, and so much more that we hard-working Americans cannot get.

With these trends it is only a matter of time when the whole mess implodes, and the darkness that we are beginning to see will spread and cover this whole nation leaving it as dark as a starless, moonless night. Making this once powerful country no more than a third world welfare state having to depend on the rest of the world for support – at least the parts of this nation that will survive this quagmire. And if you think that any of this will not happen, then you haven’t studied your history or know that history has a tendency to repeat.

Solutions? Personally I have none. With a lawless government in control, (And I mean this because of the failure of our government to follow the laws of the Constitution.) who can stand against them? Is this so different from the USSR at its height, or Germany during the Hitler era? I’d say overall that the answer is a simple no. And not only has the government become Socialist, but the same has infiltrated our schools and are bringing up our next generation to be this way and expect to be governed this way.

One of the goals of such organizations is to eliminate religion, and you can see the attacks made presently against the predominant religion of this country, Christianity. Again the Socialists and Communists know that atheism and making the government the predominant religion brings the people further under their control. The Catholic Church, during the dark ages, knew this well, and used its considerable power to maintain control, not only over the people, but the monarchies of the time. The overall goal here is to make the government the only place any can turn to for anything, making those in control the elite. Total Power Corrupts Totally.

Can any of this be stopped at this late date? Again, I don’t know, but one thing for sure we cannot depend on the two major parties to bring about the required change. Maybe this is why the one person who is outside of the political machines has been doing so well in the polls. Still we see the goal of the parties is to place their chosen in the coveted position. We do not need two families, (no different from the old monarchies in reality) controlling the office of the president.

We are coming closer and closer to the time when there will be only one candidate presented for office. If you do no believe this look to the Democratic party and see who they are presenting. A known Socialist, and a second, and that’s all. How long will it be until even two will be considered too many?

Then we have this, (I’ll be providing a link): Here is an attack on the First Amendment and the rights it grants the citizens of this country. Losing this right would mean that if you disagreed with what the government was doing and spoke out you could be arrested and put into jail as a political prisoner with no recourse, and probably no speedy trial. And while it wasn’t a serious attempt, it shows the ignorance of the American People and especially college students. Again it would be pushing this nation closer to the old USSR.

This was followed by the announcement that the DHA was looking at several states with the possibility of invalidating their government issued ID’s, (Driver licenses, State issued IDs,  and such) as invalid for travel requiring passports to move between states. Passports? Really? Are we Europe where there are many countries and each autonomous to the other, or are we the United States of America where traveling between states without papers is one of the freedoms we enjoy? Yet, if this comes about we are looking at a further loss of freedoms, and coming oh so much closer to further control by the government, since this, once again, is coming from the Federal Government, and is pushing us further away from the vision of the founding fathers, and definitely would be outside of the Constitution.  And while they push, “It’s for the safety of our air travelers”, we become more under the control of this government.

Again, as I have stated throughout this post, I have no answers, or ideas as to how to turn this around back to the way this nation is supposed to be governed. The last really strong leader who believed in the Constitution and the people was Ronald Regan. An actor who became governor of California, (and we won’t even discuss what’s happened to California) and who then served two terms as President of this United States of America. All I can do, through what I see, and of course, present this as personal opinion, since it is, and let you, the reader, decide. Let you, the reader, check out the facts and see if what I’m stating is accurate. Because in the end one cannot bring change. One still can bring forth ideas, show facts, and begin the processes of returning this nation to its roots, back to sanity, and away from the lawlessness this Federal Government has shown. But in the end is takes all of us.

4th of July – Just Another Day

Personal thoughts and comments:

Or so it seems. And if any truly want to be honest it is just that – another day. We’ve, in our personal lives seen many of them pass us by, and as long as time has been recorded, as we presently do, there seems to be piles of those past days. Yet, over two hundred years ago an event took place that would change and influence world history. When it happened the odds of success were, well, highly against the ones trying to start what became known as the great experiment.

The “colonies”, as they were known, were weak and divided, and yet they defied one of the most powerful nations on earth at that time. Declaring to the world that the oppression, and the lack of representation would no longer be tolerated. They attempted to come to a peaceful settlement with the King and the Houses of England, but continued to get nothing for all their efforts. Eventually, as all things do, it reached the breaking point, and with some trepidation, they crafted the Declaration of Independence, and broke away from England.

Unless one really studies this time in history, it can appear that from their time to now, the road traveled seemed to be simple and easy. Yet, if this is the view it is far from the truth. At no time during the war was there a guarantee of success. In fact the rag-tag army of America was defeated in almost every battle they fought against the British. The new nation was broke, the government created had no real power, and the army that fought this war had nothing to fight with, and was replaced often with new recruits. Meaning there was no trained army to repel the British, and their hired guns the Prussians.

With the appeal to France for help (France and Brittain was continually at each other’s throat), there was a good possibility that this would fail, since the French wanted nothing to do with Brittain, but at the same time wanted a piece of the action. England ruled the seas, and their armies kept their many colonies throughout the world under their control. England truly was a world power and dominant. So unless the Americans could provide some guarantees France would stay on the sidelines.

Corruption and graft existed in this world of chaos, and today we see that nothing has changed. The leaders of this brand new nation tried to keep it all under control, but failed miserably. The Continental Congress could considered more of a figurehead than a true government. And the leaders of this rebellion knew that if they failed that only death awaited them. Yet, they persevered.

In truth while July 4, 1776 is the official day, the document actually became available two days earlier, but we must remember that there were not the methods of communication or travel we are familiar with today, and it took time to bring the representatives together, and to edit and approve the document.

The war raged on for many years, and again in 1812 the British attacked this nation, after a declaration of war by America. (It is this second war with the British where America came close to losing again. Even the capital of the new nation was burned to the ground.) And in the end, through all those failures, eventually, and as stated “through providence”, the nation became independent – free do put together a new type of government, and new way of looking at governance, a totally different direction, or the great experiment. The result of this great experiment created the greatest nation this world has ever known.

Yet, those very critical documents known as the Constitution of the United States, the foundation that allowed this nation to become what it is today are in jeopardy, as they are being completely ignored by the very government tasked with upholding them. And as a result of this, this once great nation is heading for a fall. And when this fall does come to pass it will leave a dangerous vacuum in the world.

Whether she wanted it or not, America became the world leader or super power, and has also become the world’s police force. It has bailed out every nation on this planet. Provided needed supplies, and assistance wherever and whenever required. It has fought in foreign wars to free people of dictatorships, and yes, like all of us personally, made mistakes.

So for us who have the privilege of being born here, we must be diligent, and protect what those sacrifices from ancestors provided. If we do not, then, and in the end, we can only blame ourselves. And when the fall does come, it will be a surprise to many. And then it will be proclaimed, “Oh, how the mighty have fallen . . .”

Can our way of life, or this nation be saved at this late date? For that I have no answers, but if we continue along the pathways we are presently following the outcome is guaranteed. It is only “the when” that is left as an unknown. Enjoy, the many celebrations proclaiming the birth and beginnings of this nation. Take to heart the sacrifices made through time that allowed this nation to be strong. And understand that unless we change, go back to our beginnings, that soon, very soon, these celebrations will be hollow, and mean nothing at all. Because we will no longer be here as a nation, as a people.

God and his laws played prominently in the birth of this nation, and our government, the formation of all we see, and is the foundation for the way we have dealt with this world. Yet, everywhere one looks God is rejected and Christians, even here in this country are persecuted. We are no longer one nation under God, but what we are isn’t clear. Still Pride goes before the Fall. And I see very little difference in our politicians versus the royalty that existed in Europe during the dark ages. It has become two different worlds. And individual rights are being wiped away as unimportant – a keystone to the Constitution – with it being replaced with a Socialist doctrine of “Social Justice”.

At one time business owners had the right to refuse a customer. Now customers can come in, and if refused, destroy that business owner simply because he or she refused to serve them. This is not the country or nation I grew up in, but is the reality of today. The right of the individual is gone and has been replaced by this “social justice”, which simply means whatever the whim will be the law. And as this aspect continues to grow, more and more of the Constitution will be swept under the rug, and ignored. Until it becomes a piece of trash to dispose of, since it will have no meaning, no power. Leaving the one place in this world where any could come to seek freedom, to be gone forever.

So, enjoy the fireworks, the picnics, and the time together with friends and family. Celebrate the time when an oppressed people stood up against unjust acts against them. But understand that all they fought and died for can be swept away in an instant, allowing a great nation to die. And if this happens there will be no mercy from the rest of the world as they come in and fight over the corpse to make it their own.

Happy 4th! May it truly have meaning.

What is Absolute Shall Remain

Personal thoughts and Opinions:

I’ve thought about this for a while, and what the title states is true. What I mean is this; if indeed there is a God, and I believe personally there is, the laws, the rules that were laid down are unchangeable period. No matter how mankind tries to change them, influence them, or ignore them they are there and will remain long after mankind is gone. It doesn’t necessarily apply only to the infinite, but also to governments and the laws that those governments are supposed to honor, and everything in-between.

If we were to look at the Constitution of this country (USA), those to the left want to change it so that it reflects more of the way they think, the way they act, the way they want to rule. And right now since the left is controlling the government it is obvious the direction of the country. And they are completely ignoring the laws of the land (the Constitution). And they state it is this way; “Because the constitution is an obsolete document it doesn’t apply to us. If it were only a living document then we might actually follow it. Since it’s not why should we be bound by or to it?”

Of course they want it to become a living document since doing so allows them to interpret it in any fashion and any direction they want. To translate it and change it to more reflect how they see it. In other words make it over in their image because it is their right to make these changes, and who cares how it will affect the citizens, the laws, and what this nation should be, and why should I care what any other might think. Because, bottom line, it’s my way or the highway.

We see similar things in many of the religions of this world. The learned ones or leaders who supposedly speak from the knowledge, education, and understanding, apply the laws within their particular religion as they see fit. If it doesn’t happen to fit the situation – their situation, then the inconvenient truth is they change it so that it will fit their personal beliefs. Yet, if what God states and what is written is Absolute, how are they able to change what is written, and change it in such a way that the results lead to their personal interpretation, making it convenient for them to accomplish whatever is their agenda? In other words, by taking anything out of context they can make it say anything they want it and we see this happening much too much.

We are seeing people killed for supposedly doing things against what these sacred scripts state, while others who violate the very same laws or scripts are getting a free pass because what these others are doing happens to support those in charge and their agendas. Again if what is written is absolute, how can it apply to one and not another, allowing  man to change it anytime he pleases? In truth he can’t, but does that change the facts or the inconvenient truth that they are saying they have such a right, are more knowledgable, and are better than the One who created all of this? Of course nobody has this right, but this is what we are seeing throughout this world.

In the end it probably comes down to these two words – power and control.  The ones who are pursuing these two words are doing whatever they feel they must to gain what these two words represent. The inconvenient truth lies in the fact that too many will do whatever is necessary to be part of those two words. It doesn’t matter where they are in the hierarchy, it only matters that they find a way, including the compromise of all that is written, and/or what they personally believe to get to the point where it is their word, their demands, their views that all must bow down to.

Yet one of the axioms, which has been around for much longer than I’ve existed is, Total power, corrupts totally. No matter how it comes about, whether for good, or for personal gain the results are always the same. There are more examples of this in history, than there are examples of this type of rule, this type of leadership, producing benevolent results. You name it, kings, sultans, socialism, communism, and even to some extent democracy, because there are many within this system that find a way to manipulate it to their wants and needs, and all have been corrupted by the lure of power, the lure of control.

We find it existing in all religions of the world. Where the ones on top of the hierarchy find ways to influence the governments, or in many cases become the government, bringing total control over the people who are under them. Study any of the history about any of the major players and you will find greed, deceit, corruption, the grab for power, religious wars, and so much more. Of course all of this applies to all the governments in this world. After all we are corruptible, and given the chance – any chance at all and we will be corrupted.

In a sense you see this with the pecking order throughout the natural world, and even where much is shared, inside families. And if one really thinks about it, when the leadership is shared there is less chance of the law or axiom of total power doing its worst. We see it in the world of birds, in the wilds with animals where the fight to be the alpha male and female is a constant day-to-day struggle. So is it a surprise we see the same thing with us in the world of mankind? When the alpha position is being used properly all benefit. The real problem lies in the fact that the siren’s call, her lure of power and control is so strong that the ones who reach the pinnacle of leadership eventually believe they are better, know more, and overall, what is needed for all the people who lie beneath them to remain beneath them. Pride and ego go before the fall.

There is a reason for the wisdom of the world to have been written and to be followed. Most of these writings strive to balance us, to keep the corruption out. The problem lies in the fact that even at the beginning, whether the goals were as they should be, and the ones who have reached this point of leadership, have been reading and following this wisdom, eventually they reach a point where they feel that all of this history, all of what is written, all of the admonishments, are no longer valid, and as such none of this rubbish applies to them.

It is at this point that the restrictions in the texts, or the Constitution become problems. After all, it means they cannot accomplish what they’ve set out to do, and so it is time for a change, time to make these documents living, “So any or all of them can reflect my point of view, my agenda. Because, I can see so much more, so much better than all, and because of this I will conveniently ignore what I want, and apply it the way I feel is in the best interest of, well, me.”

And when these leaders reach this point it is the world that suffers, with death and destruction, pain, torture, loss of life, and so many other unspeakable acts. Yet, when all is said and done, and in the end, it is still true, no matter what has been done, or the attempts to place such documents as being unimportant, a waste of time, an irritant, a restriction, they will always be Absolute and shall remain long after the time of the corrupted leaders who will be forgotten at some point in time, and be long buried in their graves.

* * *

January has bit the dust, and the first month of the new year is ending. It is the time of the gathering of documents, a time leading to what is known here in this country as tax season. It forces us to look back on 2014 and in a sense financially shows us whether it’s been a good year or not so good. I can only hope that is was a good one, and this year will be a better one. Have a great week and see you back here on Saturday. God Bless! (
